Title:

Mobile Testing as a Service on Clouds

Speakers:

  • Prof. Jerry Gao, Computer Engineering Department in San Jose State University, San Jose, California, USA.
  • Prof. Wei-Tek Tsai, School of Computing, Informatics, and Decision Systems Engineering at Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ, USA.

Abstract:

Cloud computing leads an opportunity in delivering testing as a service (TaaS) for SaaS and applications on clouds. This brings new business opportunities, challenges, and demands on innovative software testing service models, testing techniques, QoS standards, and requirements. With the recent significant increase of the mobile user population, more mobile app stores, mobile applications, and mobile SaaS systems drive an emergent demand, and lead future trend in mobile computing and mobile cloud services.

This keynote presentation covers different perspectives of mobile testing as a service (MTaaS) on clouds, including concepts, motivations, benefits, test environments, requirements, and features. Meanwhile, it presents a classification of different types of approaches and services in MTaaS, and offers a clear comparative view between conventional mobile testing service and MTaaS on clouds. Moreover, it summarizes and compares the current mobile testing approaches and major players. Furthermore, it discusses some possible solutions in MTaaS, in test modeling, multi-tenancy and scalability testing, and test automation.

Finally, it examines underlying issues, challenges, and emergent needs, and discusses future research directions in TaaS and Mobile TaaS.

Prof. Jerry Gao's Short Biography

Jerry Gao is currently a professor at Computer Engineering Department in San Jose State University, San Jose, California, USA.  He received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington. He had over 15 years of academic research and teaching experience and over10 years of industry working and management experience on software engineering and IT development applications. He has published hundreds publications in IEEE/ACM journals, magazines, International conferences and workshops. He has co-authored three published technical books and edited numerous books in software testing, component-based software engineering, and mobile computing. His current research areas include cloud testing, TaaS, cloud computing, and mobile cloud services.

Since 2010, he has been working on collaborated research projects on cloud testing, testing as a service (TaaS), and SaaS testing for Fujitsu Research Laboratory. Until now, he and his co-authors have published numerous papers on this subject.
